Dry bed vs water feature

New water featureIt looks like my dry river bed has become an instant water feature! It rained heavily the night before so the following morning the garden looked surprizingly clean and fresh and to my surprise I had an instant water feature. The frogs were going nuts and it made me smile! So it looks like the summer dry bed will be a winter water feature. I’m not complaining – and neither are the frogs! It was a suggestion in the designing phase to add a water feature here, but as I was trying to create a waterwise grass garden bed, I did not want to spend oodles of money on pumps and electricity and water and filters…. so my dry river bed was the ideal solution. And – hey! Presto! Nature brought me a water feature. I am so enjoying my new addition to my garden. It is such a hit with the neighbours! I do detect a bit of jealousy though! 🙂

Hope you have a great gardening week ahead!

Grass Feature – Part 2

The Dirty Gardener!I have finally finished! Whew! It has been a gruelling 2 days hard labour – my back is in spasms and my left hand middle finger is swollen and sore! But all the aches and pains aside – it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. All the excitment when putting pen to paper and actually seeing  it come to life!

From the adventure we took to Elgin Valley to buy the grasses, to the painful digging and planting of my trees,  to the continuous shopping for sand, stones, compost, and more plants, to the marking out and constant rearranging of each grass, to the individual planting of each one! It was a true labour of love and I always kept my intentions full of love and goodness. This is so important when I work with plants because they feel it and I truly believe that they grow better!  I even bought LOVE that I planted in the garden. Can you see it? Well, all I can say while I stand back and gaze at my beautiful grass garden – It is really and truly BEAUTIFUL!! No more to say ……you can see for yourself! So, let the dirty gardener go and clean up all the mess I made and get out of the rain!!

Enjoy the photos!

Grass Feature – Part 1

Hi Chris, I wanted to upload a completed Grass Feature post, but this is not to be – yet! I was so convinced it would take me a few hours on Good Friday morning to get it looking ‘mooi’ but it is Saturday evening and I’m STILL not finished. So here was yesterday’s big graft! I had to drop my tools at 6pm when the sun was setting and it was starting to get cold. Will post today’s photo’s tomorrow – I am still in my grubby gardening clothes. I worked non-stop from 10am until 6pm AND I had to get 2 extra bags of river sand for my ‘dry river bed’ feature. Needless to say, I came home with a car full of MORE stuff!!!  Sorry, Chris – I didn’t take photo’s – it was literally grab and in the garden to plant! So Check out  Part 2 tomorrow when I will most definitely be finished!!! 🙂

How’s the big Bulb Planting going??? It’s back breaking, hey?
