Hi Chris, I was so interested in your blog post the other day on the bugs and creatures in your garden, that I decided to take a walk around my garden too, to see if I can also come up with some interesting bug-a-boos! I was so amazed at what I saw! Maybe you and our friends out there can recognise some of them!

Hello,
I saw your beautiful moth. When I looked on internet, I saw, that the gypsy moth is another moth.
I think, it is a Hippotion celerio, known as the Vine Hawk-Moth or Silver-striped Hawk-Moth.
A south-African beetle is to difficult for me. Perhaps a leaf-beetle (Chrysomelidae) There are many species.

Thank you so much for that valuable information. I am sure I read too that it is a hawk moth. Now for the orange bug?? Still need to find out if it is a friend or foe.
The aphids on the rose buds give me a chill. I hate the little buggers. Nice buggy photos though.

Thanks Ani – hmmmmmm………… a Gypsey moth! I’m going to go and do some research on this nastie! Thanks for the info!
thanks for this interesting post – there seems to be 2 different insect on the rose – some kind of beetle and a tiny insect. I wonder if someone will be able to identify them?
Hi Catmint – Oh yes, I can see that there are white flies and ants as well. I immediately hit them with my soap & basil insect repellant spray!! Works like a bomb! Have an aphid-less day!
