This afternoon I had to pop in to the nursery to get ONE bag of potting soil. That’s all. One bag of potting soil. I promised myself that was all I would buy as I have so much work to do in the garden and still have some plants standing around (from the Elgin trip) that need to be planted. That’s the deal I make with myself – I’m only allowed to buy plants when everything is planted and there is nothing much to do in the garden.
I needed one bag of potting soil to fill a container that is being planted with spring flowering bulbs. Thats my mission this weekend – to get all the bulbs planted. So I really needed the potting soil.
Here is what one bag of potting soil looks like in my world …
But here’s why …
When I got there I realised that the Narcissus bulbs need a container too (aren’t they pretty?)
The “bulb book” says its a good idea to over-plant the bulbs with annuals (as a living mulch), so I “needed” the Lobularia.
I found Helichrysum which I just love and had been looking for.
And I fell in love with the Dianella (variegated Flax Lily) – I think it will look great with the uninvited Caladium in the shade garden.
See? All neccessary purchases after all …
Happy Gardening

LOL!!! Thats what I do too. “Just one ….” and I come back with plenty. At least you actually bought the potting soil, sometimes I forget to buy the “Just One” I went for!
Barbie, I think you need to do a “Two Bags of River Sand” post! Did you take photos?
Oh dear! I didn’t take photos! Darn!! I was in such a hurry to get going that I literally grabbed everything out of the car. haahaa!! A “Two Bags of River Sand” post would have been hilarious! 🙂 We are so funny!!!
Ya, I can’t believe we both did the same thing on the same day 🙂
Hi Chris, Yes, I love the containers (going to look absolutely FAB filled with Narcissus!!) and I can see that you have totally justified the ‘only potting soil’ purchase!! heehee!!!
I did the SAME thing today! I had to get 2 more bags of river sand…….. you know, for my dry river bed feature – and I came back with a car FULL of new plants and stuff!!!! I have to stop this now! Once the grass feature is done, I HAVE to relax abit! 🙂
Hahahaha … That is SO funny! I don’t think we should be allowed to visit nurseries on our own anymore! (not that we are much better when we go together – but at least there is less room in the car). haha, I really enjoyed your comment xxx
