My little guava tree

Hi Chris, just a quick update on my guava tree. It was looking so bushy, that I decided to give it a prune. Now it is looking like a tree. I have about 5 guavas on it! A small harvest, but I guess this little tree is only just recovering. It still only stands at about 1.5m high. I love guavas so hopefully in years to come we can make all sorts of  jams, juices and bottled guavas.  Happy gardening! xxx

Guava Tree pruned

By Barbara

Country living is the best! Being a true spirit of the earth, my garden is all about vegetables and fruit trees and herbs and chickens roaming free. I was keen to really start gardening when we moved to Philadelphia in 2005, but not your typical suburban-type garden – sterile and bug-free! I wanted an edible garden.

They grow so easily. Ours are coming up from the roots of trees we cleared for the driveway. I was disconcerted to realise that guavas are an invasive alien, and we South Africans are supposed to have a permit. But we don’t. The trees grow really tall, I see the farmers prune them down to picking height, which makes sense.
