Quinces galore and a fig tree that needs a scarecrow!! His name is el-sha-fig!

I was actually a little scared of the scarecrow myself :). What does his name mean? It sounds hebrew.
I’d love to grow figs but I have heavy clay soil, high in Nitrogen. My landlord wasted $20 buying a fig tree for the land here. May I ask what your soil is like, please?
