Meadow in colour

Hi Chris – the meadow patch is blooming!! There are delicate flowers every where and more to come….. I know there are weeds in between the flowers, but thats a meadow, right? I know there are alyssums, nasturtiums, cosmos but no real flowers yet, there are phlox and marigolds and others I need help with. Take a look at how nice it looks now! It needs some sort of styling, but at […]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in July

Winter Blues  are deep set this month as we start off on our seventh Garden Bloggers Harvest Day this 5th day of July 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens have very little to show off. All the gardening magazines highlight the fact that we should be harvesting our cabbages, cauliflowers and broccolis, but this is far from happening. Well, the temperatures have been rather cold and we have spotted snow on […]

Fleeing Fugitives

This week started off with a hint of “Police File” investigations. Familiar sounds – usually heard in prison, I mean cages! – emanating from the tree tops surrounding our house. Well, what do you know!?? Two fleeing fugitives caught in my camera sights…. Barney Blue and Yam Yam Yellow! Don’t know where they escaped from, but are now having either long soliloquy cheep-chats with bored pigeons or flitting at high speed from […]

Winter in my garden

I have to say that I was dreading winter – but there have been some really warm days and the rainy days have been spent indoors with a warm fire and always some seeds to plant on the back deck. I want to show you what’s been going on in my garden, especially in the back where the new meadow is growing so beautifully. I am really enjoying my garden and the […]

What’s this?

While I’ve been cleaning up my garden and planting seedlings, I have been watching these two strange “weed” bushes developing in the corner where the old conifer tree was. I wanted to see what they would eventually become, but I am now curious to know what the dickens these are! The first bush has a very familiar looking flower – similar to a tomato and the actual potato plant! Any clue?? Then, […]

Two Gardens in Winter for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

The stunning red Camellia, size of a side plate

It is taking a little more effort in June to put together something interesting from our Two Gardens this winter. Even though the foliage and the surrounding trees and shrubs are not looking too shabby, the blooms are timid and don’t seem in the mood to show their faces. We have captured a few hidden gems and hope to impress a few of you this Garden Bloggers Bloom Day! Here’s what’s blooming […]

A wet winter garden

The weather man has predicted rain and more rain and cold temperatures, so for this weekend we made soup and collected firewood for the  fireplace and the only thing missing is a good book. I did take some time during the week to take note of the chores still needing my attention. The chicken run needs a landscape artist – sigh! …. and the next lot of seedlings need sowing – ok! […]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in June

Winter starts us off on our sixth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day this 5th day of June 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens have been hit hard with the “flu blues” and “sinus struggles” the past week, but on the mend. Even though our winters are not that harsh, they can be wet and stormy. This threatens our delicate seedlings in our vegetable and herb gardens planted in autumn. The winter seeds […]

What a Hen House?

We thought we did our “girls” a favour this weekend by buying them a brand new Hen House – well, it’s a dog house but we won’t tell them. It was not expensive and George, who builds these great pet houses, uses old pellets to build then, so they are made from 100% recycled material! George makes a living buy building these and he does a really fine job. He is a […]

Meadow in May

I am so excited to see the carpet of Meadow green is now flowering – that is so quick! It seems like yesterday when I scattered a bunch of Winter Mix meadow seeds onto my bleak back garden patch. There are so many different varieties of plants that I will only know what is what when they start blooming. I am not worried about the weeds because Mother Nature doesn’t either. I […]
