Garden Bloggers Bloom Day in October

My joy to see some sun and that the garden is looking springy for the first time this Spring. It still needs some loving care from the gardener, but in essence it is looking colourful and fun. There are areas where Mother Nature has used her own initiative and gathered a few seeds from last season and made a fabulous display! I spent less at the garden nursery these past months and used what I had – dividing and transplanting – leaving bulbs in the ground – and letting flowers self-seed! I have to admit I am more impressed with this type of gardening because it’s fun and costs nothing! Especially the Irises! They will eventually take over the back garden – how wonderful!!

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in October 2013

This Fleabane was a transplanted shoot – now already a small shrub!

Sweet dew drenched peas – love the delicate flowers!

A great companion – Nasturtiums. I plan to have lots of them growing! Great re-seeders and a marvelous salad addition!

Gentle blossoms of the quince tree!

Borage, dietes, sage , feverfew and blueberry blossoms in my bee patch!

A wild bunch of corn flowers – self seeded.

An unusual air plant – only blossoms this time of year! Found it at the back all dried out Now look. Just starting.

This raised bed is full of buds and seeds from last season – Ixias, Sparaxsis, Calendula, doing there own thing! Love their design!

Some more self-seeded flowers – Calendula! They can grow everywhere in my garden because of there wonderful healing properties! I am making tinctures and oils this year! In the middle of making my own facial products. Will keep you posted!

So very excited!! My very first passion flower – I missed the bloom! But I will get the next one! This grenadilla vine has been perking up now! I look forward to it climbing up this arch!

The back garden is looking colourful with the irises in the foreground – the bright yellow flowers of the Chinese cabbage and the bright orange of the nasturtiums. The quince tree in the back is so pretty with all the blossoms!

OK – my hubby needs to get cracking on the pool – needs a good clean and we will be ready for the warm weather! Just a bit of work in the garden still!!

Late Garden Bloggers Bloom Day in September

I have been soaked to the bone this past week and I know that August and September have been some of the wettest months so far in the Cape! So, I had little hope of Spring flowers. I have to admit that the “gardening joy bug” hasn’t hit me yet and with the beginning of Spring already gone, I had to muster up some strength to venture outside into the soggy garden with gumboots and umbrella! I was determined to add some colour to my day! And here it is! I was so surprized to see so much flowering and so much colour!

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in September 2013

Sparaxis

Back in my Garden

Well I guess you all thought that I left the country!! Well, I did! I travelled to Germany on business and also to visit family. During this time, my hubby stayed home and said that the weather was cold, wet, very wet and miserable!! I had a fabulous trip and took lots of photos, so I will have to do a special post on my trip. My garden looks forlorn and totally drenched! I was so surprised when I took my camera and found a few blooms for a delayed Blooms Day! Here are the sunny flowers that managed to put a smile on my face! Hey!! We are supposed to be in Spring!! But we really don’t feel very Springy yet!!

Garden Bloggers Bloom Day in my winter July 2013

I did not want to miss another Bloom Day! There is always something blooming here and wanted to join in again, so no one will think that I have closed my garden gate. Even though there is not a lot to see, I love the blooms that are coming through now – my favourite Borage and the sunny Calendula daisy. The worst of winter is passing and the days are getting longer. We’ve had soggy days and sun-drenched days – bone-chilling days and balmy days!  Winter days are for wrapping up warmly and watching the garden sleep. But I can even boast growing a few seedlings! I look forward to visiting all the summery gardens this July Bloom Day!

Mid-Autumn in Two Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

The weather is changing and so has the gardening energy. The tempo has died down to a slow pace. The time to reflect and review has set in. The blooms that have decided to stay are still delighting the soul.

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in April 2013

The enthusiasm has been packed away and replaced with a more relaxed view of where to go from here. Funny, that autumn always brings this out in me. I reflect on my ordinary life and see so much magic, but I tend to miss it at the time. So I am grateful for the few pleasures and the few blooms that hang around. Enjoy them with me.

[one_half]My Tansy bush is back to life[/one_half]

[one_half_last]Violas in full bloom – so pretty[/one_half_last]

[one_half]Tomato blossoms – signs of things to come[/one_half]

[one_half_last]Fennel-as pretty as a flower[/one_half_last]

Just loving my roses – not many flowers, but the feeding and mulching has brought lots of buds!

[one_half]The Calibrachoa is always blooming![/one_half]

[one_half_last]The chicks are not fussed by the limited blooms[/one_half_last]

An artistic view of the roses in my garden! Used a fancy lens!

The cooler days are slowly replacing the swelter of summer. The refreshing rains in March will give the Two Gardens a welcome time out! This is the time to reflect and review – what is coming up this season and what can we look forward to.

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in March 2013

I have started early with all the cleaning and cutting and digging and clearing. I feel ready for the cooler march weather and I can start sowing my new seeds for the winter. Late summer in Two Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

When the heat ebbs and the lazy afternoons have been replaced with plans to re-do the beds, then you know that summer is going to be replaced real soon. February has always been the best month of summer, but it looks like this summer was really short!

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in February 2013

I am really keen to yank out all my used and dead foliage and get my beds ready for the winter garden. I have very few colourful blooms and hardly anything new to show you. There are still the roses and salvia that keep up a great show! I love the Gaura this year, reseeding itself and the small Violas have been a great help in keeping the veggie patch cool this summer.

I’ve unfortunately neglected my garden over the last few weeks and was both happy and dismayed when I took a walk through yesterday to take a few photos for this post. I used to be able to ignore the garden and not much would change … but now as my garden is maturing the growth this summer has been nothing short of amazing. Gone are the bare patches and walls, to be covered with … well, lots and lots of growth. Some pretty and some not so pretty. Lots of work to cut back, control and clean up. There’s not much to show off but here are some of the flowers gracing my garden right now …

Mid-summer in Two Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

The Festive Season has passed and the New Year resolutions are still top of mind. The summer has deepened and the blooms are inviting the butterflies and the bees for a friendly visit. The wind this time of year is unusual and the hot, searing air makes all the flowers and plants thirsty. The heat of the summer is upon us so stay cool this Bloom Day!

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in January 2013

I know that our Northern friends can only wish for this summer heat! Out our way, the air is so dry and the grasses are a soft caramel colour. The clay ground is as hard as cement so no big planting projects are planned. The plants are so thirsty and I have to water almost twice a day. I have more blooms than I expected. Here is what my lovely garden is putting up for show!

Summer in Two Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

The summer heat has arrived with a bang! The temperature is rising and the cool spring days have gone. The holiday season is here and the gardeners are keen to get the sprinklers on and new plants in the beds. Time to enjoy the weather and the lazy summer days just gazing into the garden.

Here’s what’s blooming in Christine’s garden in December 2012

My garden is flourishing and I’m really thrilled with it. Everything is growing, all the bare patches have filled in and everywhere I look there is something flowering and thriving. From lovely foliage combinations to flowers galore, there is something lovely to see in almost every corner and bed of my garden.

End-Spring in Two Gardens for Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

It is not easy to say that our Spring in coming to an end. It has been a favourite time with tons of flowers and colours. It is the season we all know well for “Spring Cleaning” and we both know what that feels like. Busy keeping the growth under control and watching for the next surprise!

Here’s what’s blooming in Christine’s garden in November 2012

It’s not been as “florific” a Spring as I’d hoped for, mainly because I’ve been away and not had much time to spend planning and planting in the garden. Taking photos for this post has been a great exercise as I can see where I need to cut back and where I still have ‘colour gaps’ to fill. The star of my garden in November is Star Jasmine (Trachelospermum jasminoides). That’s it from Claremont in Cape Town, lets see whats happening in Barbie’s garden in Philly …

Here’s what’s blooming in Barbie’s garden in October 2012

So much is happening in my garden, I can’t keep up! I swear that my lawn grows 3cm every day! There are so many flowers I wanted to try in my garden this spring, that I have over done it! There are the roses that are at their best now, and the Irises that have given me a splendid show and the daisy-type flowers are all over the garden. The Salvias and the Babianas and the Calendula are all so colourful. Have a look and see what’s exploding in my garden …..
