Today I’m grateful that gardening connects me with nature. Its all to easy to forget about the simple pleasures of nature when your face is glued to a computer screen all day, every day, as mine is. Having a garden that needs attention forces me outside into the fresh air where I get to enjoy the many wonders of owning a garden. And I’m not just referring to the plants, although those are wondrous in themselves.
In the garden I get to enjoy the bees that buzz around, the lovely birds that have become regular visitors, the butterflies I am seeing more of these days and the geckos and … dare I say it, even the spiders. Isn’t nature wonderful? You grow a garden and nature sends you all these delightful visitors – for that I am grateful.
Photo: Bee on the Crabapple (Malus floribunda). I love the bees in my garden. There are always, always bees buzzing around my garden. I used to be really scared of bees until I started gardening, now I’ve become so used to them now that they don’t bother me at all.
Malus floribunda, or Japanese flowering crabapple, originates from Japan. It forms a round-headed, small deciduous tree with narrow leaves on arching branches. The flowers are white opening from crimson buds.
