Spot The Red

Red leaves on Nandina pygmaea

Barbie alerted me to an amazing competition in  SA Garden magazine for gardeners called “Spot The Red photo competition”. The 1st prize is a Nikon D3100 DSLR camera and the second prize is a Nikon COOLPIX S3100. To enter the competition, gardeners are required to submit a photograph of a red item in their garden. The “red item” can be anything from a bug, a field of red flowers or a tree […]

Nothing can describe the energy that the Sun brings to your garden better than the face of a Sunflower! Happy Wordless Wednesday!

Praying Mantis babies have hatched

Can you remember the post I did on the Praying Mantis laying her egg sac? Well, I nearly stepped on the new-born mantis babies today!! I have taken these close up shots of the egg sac (see how the marauder insects are tackling it!) and the baby manti-do’s! So cute! I could not tell how many have hatched but there were quite a few scurrying around! They are literally the size of […]

New additions for 2012

I guess my New Year’s resolution is to have more colour in my garden. I have so enjoyed the nursery outings that Christine and I take on regular intervals and the temptation to buy more and more flowering plants has taken hold of me. I will share these new additions with you and how I have added them to the garden. Here is Gerbera Garvinea (the daisy-like orange flower) and white cosmos […]

2012 Calendars and Happy New Year

Curbstone Valley Farm - November 2012

Last year I had one tiny calendar that lived on my desk, always seemed to be buried in a pile of paper and never in sight when I needed it. I don’t enjoy using the little calendar on the computer and I can’t get used to using my iPhone as a calendar or diary. I’m obviously showing my age here – but for many things I still prefer writing on paper and […]

Holiday Harvests

Whew! All I can say is I LOVE SUMMER! I am in the middle of really enjoying a few days of rest and relaxation. I had my beautiful family here with me on Christmas eve and it was a magical day. The weather was sunny and hot and the garden was glowing. I spent all week getting it to look nice and in tip top condition and it was so worth it. […]

My Twelve Days of Christmas

I was so impressed with Christine’s post that I’m joining my  gardening buddy on her Twelve Days of Christmas, as well as Diana of Elephant’s Eye for her annual Christmas Theme, The Twelve Days of Christmas! It is that time of year we can all reflect and look back on the highlights of the past year. It has been an eventful gardening year for me and I would never have achieved so much and had […]

The Twelve Days of Christmas

The Twelve Days of Christmas

Today I’m joining my friend and gardening mentor, Diana of Elephant’s Eye for her annual Christmas Theme, The Twelve Days of Christmas! (I call it a theme rather than a meme, because Christmas is about so much more than just a blogging meme). As Diana suggested, I’ve trawled through photo archives of the last 12 months and have chosen to express my Twelve Days of Christmas in photographs taken in my garden […]
