A Summer Harvest

Another look at the gorgeous Brinjal

My limited edible gardening produces just enough to keep me interested. I like to try new things to see how they grow here and this month I’m having great fun with the Brinjal “Black Beauty” I planted recently. It’s obviously in an ideal spot because it produced flowers almost immediately and the first Brinjal is almost ready for picking. I think I could pick it now but I’d like it to get [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in December

01 GBHD December 02

Can’t believe that this is the twelfth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day that  Two Gardens have posted. Summer has arrived in the Southern Hemisphere and the gum boots, wheel barrows and garden spades are toiling along side these two happy gardeners. The year has flown with lessons learned – both good and imperfect – always with sincerity and good intentions. This month will show what we have lovingly added to the edible part of the [...]

A Short but Sweet December Harvest

Rosemary and edible Viola thriving in shade

It’s a small harvest. Lots of herbs we use daily and I pick as I need, no big baskets full of produce here this month, just regular picking of the most delightful Basil I’ve grown yet. We’re eating it raw in salads and putting in everything it seems. This one is Basil “minuette”.  It is much smaller (smaller leaves, smaller plant) than the other Basil I grow which has a much stronger [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in November

04 GBHD November 06

Sorry to have missed posting yesterday, but I got carried away in my garden … Warm and sunny days are becoming the norm on our eleventh Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in Spring in the Southern Hemisphere.  Two Gardens are going to make it a habit of spending time in the garden! With last month’s rain and the sun’s happy rays washing over the plants, all our plants are stretching heavenward. Let’s see what can be [...]

Small Spring harvest

Spring harvest

I was not very diligent with my Spring veggie and herb planting so my harvest this month has been small. The endless rainy and cool weather took the “feel-like-it” right out of me and now I’m regretting not planting a few more things a bit earlier in the season. But I do have a few things to show. Notably, the Lemon grass is looking fabulous and I’ve harvested plenty, so much so [...]

Let’s see what can be harvested from Barbie’s Garden this month The sowing of seeds has been done and I am patiently [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in September

02GBHD September 07

The spring sun is out and the gardener is happy on this, our ninth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day the 5th day of September 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens are celebrating the spring – finally. The days are getting longer and warmer and we can feel the season is changing. Barbie loves the bold yellow of the canola fields surrounding her village and the bright red of the little Bishop bird. [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in August

01 GBHD August 04

There is snow in them thar hills!! The evenings are still bitterly cold as we kick off on our eighth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day this 5th day of August 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens are weary of the wet and cold. We are preparing for the sunshine and the warmer days. The hint of spring is here, but we are still wrapped in winter woollies! The seed banks are full [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in July

04 GBHD July 09

Winter Blues  are deep set this month as we start off on our seventh Garden Bloggers Harvest Day this 5th day of July 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens have very little to show off. All the gardening magazines highlight the fact that we should be harvesting our cabbages, cauliflowers and broccolis, but this is far from happening. Well, the temperatures have been rather cold and we have spotted snow on [...]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in June

coriander

Winter starts us off on our sixth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day this 5th day of June 2012 in the southern hemisphere, and the gardeners of Two Gardens have been hit hard with the “flu blues” and “sinus struggles” the past week, but on the mend. Even though our winters are not that harsh, they can be wet and stormy. This threatens our delicate seedlings in our vegetable and herb gardens planted in autumn. The winter seeds [...]
