Destruction 101

If I had to commentate the happenings in my back garden it would go something like this – “….The garden was devastated by Hurricane Skollie and Tornado Vanilla….” I am shattered at the total destruction 2 small chickens can inflict on an area large enough to hold a large house!! The garden is a total mess and the beautiful stone path around the house has been scratched to death. I have lost […]

Garden Bloggers Harvest Day in December

Can’t believe that this is the twelfth Garden Bloggers Harvest Day that  Two Gardens have posted. Summer has arrived in the Southern Hemisphere and the gum boots, wheel barrows and garden spades are toiling along side these two happy gardeners. The year has flown with lessons learned – both good and imperfect – always with sincerity and good intentions. This month will show what we have lovingly added to the edible part of the […]

Grow bag with style

Thank you so much, Chris, for this lovely new addition to my gardening arsenal, which you brought back for me from Munich. This very attractive grow bag is from EMSA – Germany and is versatile and stylish for indoor and outdoor use. It is waterproof too and with a big feel-good factor they have already taking continental Europe by storm. EMSA call these wonderful products – Soft Bags. Plants also need sufficient drainage to […]

New Back garden area

I am so amazed at how we, my hubby and I, have been able to get this new area as part of our garden again. It was the chicken run for so long and now we are going to take it back!! We erected a new wall and now in the sequence of photos you will see the taking down of the temporary (was up for at least 4 years) shade cloth. […]

Bugs galore

Not only is my garden overgrowing, the good, the bad and the ugly have also arrived! The bugs are having a party in the veggie patch and the rose bushes, but the army of ladybugs have taken control. I have left the aphids alone in the Artemesia – Powis Castle. I think it acts as a trap for them as they seem to do no harm to the bush. Within a week […]

New back garden wall

It has taken us so long to get this wall up. Every time we made a decision to build it we hit a snag; the weather was wrong, the design and construction issues, time factor, did we feel like tackling it and so on. So for two years it was off and on. Then this year it happened!! We did it! The back wall/fencing has been built. Zincalume corrugated sheeting, 2.7metres high […]

Bugs alive

I guess with the sunshine and the great goodies the garden has to offer, it is not surprizing that I will be seeing more and more critters taking advantage of the flowers! But, I have seen less bugs, so far, than last year. The ladybird beetle is back and she loves the celery and coriander bushes. Aphids are still my archrivals. They are in the roses, lemon tree, brassicas and now I […]

Last October Days

After the heat of yesterday and the windy morning, I finally ventured out into the garden to see what needed tending. Besides the blown-over trellis and the build-up of weed, I was amazed to see lots of new growth and happy flowers. I am amazed at how much a garden can really give you when you offer some love and care.  I treasure the surprises and the jump-for-joy moments, like the new […]
